During the period of everyday a particular period of about 1 ½ hours is considered inauspicious; and this period should be avoided for performing rituals, pujas and other auspicious events (shub karya); this period is known as Yamakanda. 

This period of time is computed based upon the Sun rise time and the duration of day time at any chosen place.
